日本児童出版美術家連盟（童美連）は、
1964年8月、東京オリンピックの年に結成されました。

会員数310人余りで、職業としてこどもの本などに絵をかいている画家の集まりです。
このような団体は国内だけでなく、世界的にもあまり例がありません。
会員は、仕事のキャリアにかかわらず、みな対等な立場で参加しています。

童美連は結成以来、画家の著作権を守る運動をしてきました。
個人では主張しにくい事を、みんなで団結し協力しあって、働きかけてきました。
今では常識となっている原画返却や、印税制も、童美連の先輩の運動の成果です。
著作権が守られないと、画家の制作の意欲がそがれ、良い作品を世に出していくことが困難になります。
ひいては、文化の衰退につながります。
著作権の勉強を続けつつ、難しい問題は顧問弁護士に相談して対処しています。

会員同士だけでなく、文章作家や出版社の人達との交流も活発で、いろいろな情報交換の場ともなっています。また会報や作品集の発行、展覧会などもおこなっています。

会員は一生の仕事として、こどもの本の絵をかいています。
出版社だけでなく、図書館、学校、幼稚園、保育園などや、保護者の方々にも、童美連の画家の仕事を知っていただいて、より良いこどもの文化を一緒に創っていきたいと願っています。

The Japan Children’s Book Artists Society (JCBAS) was established in August 1964, the year of the Tokyo Olympics.

JCBAS is a group of professional artists who draw or paint artworks for children’s books and magazines, and has over 350 members.
There are few similar associations not only in Japan but also in the world. All members have equal rights regardless of their career.

JCBAS has been developing its activities to protect artists’ copyrights since its establishment.
Members have banded together to win their rights, which are hard to claim by individuals.
Some examples of achievements of its activities are returning original artworks to artists after publication and paying on the basis of royalty, which are thought to be a common knowledge nowadays.
Should artists’ copyrights be not protected, their very enthusiasm of putting good works to the world will be affected, perhaps leading to the decline of culture.
JCBAS will keep studying copyrights, and cope with critical issues and problems with its legal advisors if necessary.

JCBAS provides places and opportunities, not only its members but also writers and publishers, to exchange information actively through interchange with them.
JCBAS also issues bulletins and anthologies of members, and organizes exhibitions.

All members draw or paint pictures for children’s books and magazines as their lifework.
JCBAS wishes that activities of its members should be widely known among libraries, schools, preschools and parents as well as publishers and that it can cooperate together to create a rosy children’s culture.
